Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in West Virginia
  • At least 1 year of acute-care RN experience preferred; qualified new and experienced nurses may be considered
  • Recent medical-surgical, stepdown, cardiac, or telemetry nursing experience preferred
  • Prior charge nurse experience required or strongly preferred, with the ability to assume charge responsibilities when scheduled
  • Demonstrated ability to care for both medical-surgical and cardiac stepdown patients
  • Required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience required
  • Ability to manage and titrate ordered infusions, including heparin, insulin, antihypertensives, antiarrhythmics, and pain-control infusions

Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with diverse medical diagnoses in a flexible medical-surgical and cardiac stepdown setting
  • Monitor cardiac and clinical status, recognize changes in condition, and promptly escalate concerns
  • Care for patients requiring telemetry, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and other acute-care interventions
  • Administer medications and safely titrate infusions according to provider orders and unit protocols
  • Perform thorough nursing assessments, develop individualized care plans, and document care accurately in EPIC
  • Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapists, clinical associates, telemetry staff, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Serve as charge nurse when assigned, supporting workflow, clinical coordination, and team communication
  • Float to other appropriate medical-surgical or stepdown units as needed
  • Maintain patient safety, infection-prevention practices, and high standards of professional nursing care
