Qualifications — CDI / Documentation Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of CDI experience with a strong focus on second-level reviews, clinical validation, and inpatient case complexity
- Current CCDS or CDIP certification (required)
- Proven hands-on experience with SmarterDx (required)
- Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, MS-DRG methodology, SOI/ROM capture, and reimbursement drivers
- Expertise in clinical validation, compliant query development, and AHIMA/ACDIS query standards
- Familiarity with CMS guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic interpretations
- Strong collaboration skills with CDI, coding, and physician teams; excellent critical thinking and attention to detail
Responsibilities — Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI)
- Perform second-level CDI reviews to validate accuracy of first-level reviews, ICD-10 coding alignment, and MS-DRG assignment
- Conduct clinical validation reviews to ensure diagnoses and procedures are supported by appropriate clinical indicators and documentation
- Identify documentation gaps and issue high-quality, compliant provider queries consistent with AHIMA/ACDIS standards
- Utilize SmarterDx to prioritize cases, analyze documentation opportunities, and support CDI workflow efficiency
- Collaborate with coding teams to resolve discrepancies, support accurate DRG assignment, and protect reimbursement integrity
- Provide feedback, coaching, and education to first-level CDI staff to improve documentation quality and consistency
- Support denial prevention and retrospective review initiatives through proactive documentation validation
- Maintain audit-level review quality in a detail-oriented environment and ensure compliance with organizational policies
