Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of inpatient CDI experience (inpatient clinical documentation specialist)
- RN/BSN degree
- Second-level review experience (second level clinical documentation review)
- Strong knowledge of APR-DRG and inpatient coding/documentation principles
- Familiarity with Maryland rules and state-specific documentation guidelines
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record (EHR) and 3M 360 platform
- Understanding of 3M CDI workflows and clinical documentation tools
- Preferred: CCDS or CDIP certification (Clinical Documentation Specialist credentials)
- Preferred: experience supporting quality and impact initiatives or consultant-level CDI work
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inpatient clinical documentation reviews to ensure accuracy, specificity, and completeness
- Perform second-level reviews and collaborate with providers, coders, and clinical teams
- Apply APR-DRG and Maryland-specific guidelines to drive documentation improvement and coding accuracy
- Utilize EPIC and 3M 360 for documentation workflow management and tracking CDI interventions
- Support quality improvement and compliance initiatives related to clinical documentation
- Provide education and feedback to clinicians to improve documentation practices and patient records
- Work closely with other CDI specialists, HIM, and hospital staff to achieve optimal clinical and financial outcomes
