Remote Medical Coder Job Details

Medical Coder Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of professional-fee medical coding experience
• Strong experience with E/M coding, particularly in primary care and multispecialty healthcare settings
• Experience with 3M CAC is required
• Ability to navigate PowerChart as needed
• Working knowledge of coding for hospital medicine, infectious disease, pulmonology, pain management, and wound care is highly valued
• Knowledge of outpatient and professional-fee coding guidelines, diagnosis coding, procedure coding, and modifier usage
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining coding accuracy, productivity, compliance, and clear communication
• Flexibility to support different coding queues as workload and volume change

Professional-Fee Medical Coder Responsibilities

• Accurately code professional-fee primary care encounters with an emphasis on E/M services
• Review medical documentation and assign appropriate diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers in accordance with applicable coding guidelines
• Support a variety of multispecialty coding queues, including hospital medicine, infectious disease, pulmonology, pain management, and wound care
• Code pulmonology services that may include E/M visits, diagnostic testing, biopsies, and bronchial washings
• Code pain management services such as E/M visits, injections, aspirations, nerve blocks, rhizotomy, and complex care management
• Use 3M CAC and PowerChart to review clinical documentation and facilitate accurate coding decisions
• Meet the average productivity expectation of 10 charts per hour while preserving quality, accuracy, and compliance
• Communicate effectively with team members and transition between coding queues as operational priorities change
