- Location: Tyler, Texas (75701) — Tyler, TX travel/on-site medical coding position
- Employment Type: Travel, On-Site (on-site medical coder)
- Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (8-hour days)
- Hours per Week: 40
- Contract Duration: 12 weeks (Start: 5/18/2026 – End: 8/8/2026)
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings (inpatient coder / outpatient coder)
- High school diploma required (must be submitted with application)
- Proficiency with EMR and coding systems: Athena and Cerner required; Epic experience preferred
- COSC certification preferred; Specialty Coder Sr credential or equivalent a plus
- Online certification verification required
- Ability to maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher
- Must have two monitors and a laptop for work; full-time availability required
- Must reside in one of the following states: Texas (TX), Louisiana (LA), Arkansas (AR), Georgia (GA), or New Mexico (NM)
Primary Responsibilities
- Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes for inpatient and outpatient diagnoses and procedures
- Abstract clinical data into electronic medical record (EMR) systems and ensure precise EMR documentation for billing and compliance
- Verify patient dispositions, physician data, and coded records to support accurate claims and reimbursement
- Follow Official ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and AMA CPT Guidelines
- Collaborate with Health Information Management (HIM), Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) specialists, and clinical teams to resolve documentation queries and improve documentation capture
- Support departmental needs and assist in other HIM/coding areas as requested by leadership
- Report to the Regional Coding Manager and receive additional leadership oversight
