Remote ED Coder – Emergency Department Medical Coder | Texas-Based Opportunity

ED Coder Job Details

  • Work Arrangement: Fully remote medical coding position
  • Location Eligibility: Candidates must reside in Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, or Tennessee. Candidates residing in South Carolina or North Carolina may be considered pending approval.
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,122–$1,247
  • Schedule: 8-hour day shifts, 5 shifts per week
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Start Date: October 19, 2026
  • Initial Duration: 26 weeks, with potential for an ongoing contract or transition to a permanent position
  • Productivity Expectation: Approximately 8–9 emergency department charts per hour

Emergency Department Coder Requirements

  • At least 1 year of professional medical coding experience, preferably in an emergency department setting
  • Previous experience coding in a Level I trauma and teaching hospital environment
  • Proficiency with EPIC and 3M coding systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in coding injections, infusions, procedures, and diagnoses
  • Strong understanding of emergency department coding guidelines and documentation requirements
  • Ability to consistently meet productivity and accuracy expectations in a remote coding environment
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and independent time-management skills
  • Successful completion of a role-specific coding assessment may be required

ED Coder Responsibilities

  • Review and accurately code emergency department medical records
  • Assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes based on clinical documentation
  • Code injections, infusions, and other emergency department procedures
  • Apply current coding guidelines and regulatory requirements to Level I trauma cases
  • Identify incomplete, inconsistent, or unclear documentation and follow appropriate clarification processes
  • Maintain a high level of coding accuracy while processing approximately 8–9 charts per hour
  • Protect patient confidentiality and maintain compliance with applicable privacy standards
  • Collaborate effectively with coding and clinical teams while working independently from a remote setting
