- Duration: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Schedule: Nights, three 12-hour shifts per week
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation
- Call: No on-call requirement at this time
- Department Environment: High-volume, 41-bed Emergency Department with more than 40,000 annual visits
- Patient Population: Primarily adult patients, with pediatric and adolescent presentations
- Local Candidate Policy: Candidates residing within 50 miles of the assignment location are not eligible
Emergency Department RN Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in the practicing state or an eligible compact-state license
- Minimum 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience; 3 or more years preferred
- Recent Emergency Department, emergency nursing, or critical care experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not being considered
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification preferred
- Successful completion of a dysrhythmia examination
- Ability to provide safe, age-appropriate care to patients from neonates through older adults
- Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
- Ability to remain calm and adaptable during high-stress emergencies and fluctuating workloads
Emergency Nursing Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments, identify changes in patient condition, and establish individualized plans of care.
- Provide emergency nursing care for medical, traumatic, behavioral health, pediatric, geriatric, and life-threatening conditions.
- Triage and prioritize patients based on acuity, risk, and available resources.
- Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with professional standards and applicable policies.
- Monitor and manage patients receiving critical care infusions, including insulin, sedation, and inotropic therapies.
- Care for patients with IVs, central venous catheters, Foley catheters, tracheostomies, feeding tubes, NG/OG tubes, and external jugular access.
- Support stabilization, resuscitation, crisis intervention, and timely escalation of care.
- Recognize dysrhythmias and changes in clinical status while responding promptly to alarms and evolving emergencies.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, EMS, diagnostic services, transfer centers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Coordinate patient transitions, admissions, transfers, discharges, and follow-up needs across care settings.
- Educate patients and families while providing compassionate, culturally responsive, relationship-based care.
- Document assessments, interventions, outcomes, and changes in condition accurately in the electronic health record.
- Promote patient safety, infection prevention, privacy, quality improvement, and evidence-based nursing practice.
- Use emergency equipment and technologies appropriately, including cardiac monitoring, ventilators, portable suction, bladder scanners, and ultrasound-guided IV resources when available.
- Delegate appropriately, collaborate with support staff, and remain accountable for nursing care and patient outcomes.
