Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) – 13-Week Contract in Richmond, Virginia

Emergency Department Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
- Location: Richmond, Virginia
- Healthcare Setting: On-site community Emergency Department
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts
- Shift Hours: 7:30 p.m.–8:00 a.m.
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend and Holiday Schedule: Every other weekend and major holidays required
- Department: 30-bed Emergency Department with a 14-bed fast-track area and additional hallway beds as needed
- Patient Population: Patients of all ages and medical complaints in a community ED; no trauma designation
- Typical Staffing Support: Respiratory therapy, patient care technicians, phlebotomy, ED technicians, unit secretary, triage nurses, 24/7 charge nurse, and on-site physician coverage with advanced practice support
Emergency Department RN Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a compact-eligible state
- At least 1 year of Emergency Department nursing experience required
- Recent experience with conscious sedation required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- CPI or equivalent de-escalation training required
- Copy of nursing diploma required
- Electronic health record experience, preferably EPIC
- Ability to complete and pass an EKG examination during orientation
- Emergency nursing experience with patients ranging from neonates and infants to adults and older adults
- Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and decisive in a high-intensity emergency care environment
Emergency Nursing Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments, triage patients, identify priorities, and develop individualized plans of care.
- Provide evidence-based emergency nursing care for medical conditions, injuries, behavioral health concerns, pediatric needs, gerontologic care, and life-threatening emergencies.
- Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with applicable nursing standards, policies, and scope of practice.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and respond rapidly with stabilization, resuscitation, crisis intervention, and escalation of care when indicated.
- Monitor patient responses to interventions, evaluate outcomes, and revise the plan of care as needed.
- Use emergency equipment and technologies, including infusion pumps, ventilators, automated CPR devices, airway visualization equipment, ultrasound, EKG machines, and bladder scanners.
- Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, respiratory therapy, EMS, pharmacies, transfer centers, social services, law enforcement, and other support agencies as appropriate.
- Educate patients and families, provide emotional support, and promote clear communication throughout the emergency care experience.
- Maintain accurate documentation, protect patient privacy, follow infection-control practices, and promote a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support quality improvement, patient safety, and efficient Emergency Department operations.
