Floating Inpatient Coder – On-Site (Boston, MA) | CCS Required

Floating Inpatient Coder (On-site) in Boston, MA – CCS required. Immediate start May 13, 2026; 13-week contract; Epic and 3M experience preferred. Join a high-performing hospital coding team supporting a Level 1 Trauma Center and multiple specialties in the 02215 medical community.

  • Location: On-site in Boston, MA (02215) — Boston medical coding jobs, Massachusetts coding jobs
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Shifts: 5 shifts per week, 8-hour days
  • Duration: 13-week contract with potential for extension
  • Start Date: May 13, 2026
  • Systems: Epic, 3M (hospital coding systems)

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent coding certification required (CCS/CPC/CCA accepted)
  • Minimum of 3 years recent inpatient coding experience; experience in OB/NB, transplants, and high-complexity surgical coding preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, MS-DRG and hospital reimbursement principles
  • Proficiency using Epic and 3M coding/revenue cycle tools
  • Ability to complete and pass the BILH coder assessment with a minimum score of 80%
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to handle complex medical cases independently

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate inpatient medical coding across specialties including Obstetrics/Newborn (OB/NB), transplants, surgical specialties, and extended acute stays
  • Assign correct DRG/APC codes and ensure compliance with payer and regulatory requirements
  • Use Epic and 3M to code charts, research documentation, and validate coding accuracy
  • Collaborate with clinical teams, HIM, and billing/revenue cycle staff to resolve documentation or coding discrepancies
  • Meet productivity and quality targets (typical expectation: 1.5–2 charts per hour) while maintaining high coding accuracy
  • Float to all participating hospitals and units as needed to support on-site coverage and continuity of care
