Required Qualifications
- Current National Medical Assistant Certification (CMA) required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA preferred)
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare or outpatient clinic setting (medical assistant experience preferred)
- Flu vaccine required
- Must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (travelers only)
- Ability to make independent decisions within scope of practice
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems and common medical equipment (BP cuff, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor, manual defibrillator)
Primary Responsibilities
- Collect and accurately document patient information, medical history, and vitals to support provider workflow
- Maintain and update patient medication and immunization records in the EMR
- Perform specimen collection, POCT, and lab draws following protocols
- Administer immunizations and injections within scope of certification
- Prepare exam rooms, set up supplies and equipment for exams and minor procedures
- Assist providers and clinic nurses during procedures and patient visits
- Recognize and respond to signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and escalate per policy
- Support clinic flow to maximize provider time and enhance patient experience in an outpatient/primary care clinic
- Transport patients within the facility as needed and ensure safe patient handling
- Participate in training, cross-coverage, staff meetings, and unit goal-setting to support continuous improvement
- Comply with safety, infection control, and risk management responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned in this travel medical assistant role
