Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a relevant clinical setting preferred
- Board Certified or Board Eligible
- Training or experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery required
- Active Virginia Physician Assistant license required
- Active DEA required
- Hospital privileges required
- Ability to work nights and weekends as part of the surgical coverage schedule
- Comfortable managing adult inpatient surgical patients
Responsibilities
- Provide locum tenens coverage for the Cardiothoracic Surgery service
- Support inpatient and outpatient care for adult cardiothoracic surgery patients
- Participate in weekend rounds and ongoing patient management
- Assist with night call and 24-hour weekend call coverage
- Collaborate with the cardiothoracic surgery team to ensure continuity of care
- Evaluate and manage patients seen on rounds, typically 5-10 patients
- Document care accurately in EPIC EMR and follow established clinical workflows
- Contribute to a smooth transition of care during scheduled coverage periods
