Interventional Radiology Technologist Job Details

- Duration: 13 weeks
- Hours per Week: 36
- Shift: Four 9-hour day shifts weekly (Monday–Friday; rotating start times: 7am–4:30pm, 7:30am–5pm, or 8am–5:30pm)
- On-Call: 1 day per week and every 4th weekend (must stay within 30 minutes of hospital during on-call)
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $2140-$2290
Interventional Radiology Technologist Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist (2–3 years preferred)
- ARRT Certification and Registration (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) – required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) from American Heart Association – required (can obtain prior to direct patient care)
- Prior travel healthcare experience preferred
- Neuro-interventional experience (run-off and angiogram) highly preferred
- Associate’s degree from an ARRT-accredited institute preferred
- Ability to stay within 30 minutes of hospital during on-call shifts
Interventional Radiology Technologist Responsibilities
- Assist physicians in diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures: biopsies, thrombectomies, embolizations, tunneled dialysis catheters, Medi ports, lumbar drains, nephrostomy tube insertions, PICC placements, gallbladder/biliary drains, vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty/sacroplasty, lumbar punctures, CAPD catheters, epidurals, PEG tube insertions
- Perform neuro-interventional procedures: cerebral angiograms, thrombectomy, coiling, carotid stenting
- Obtain and verify patient clinical history and lab work; ensure accurate documentation
- Provide clear instructions and explanations to patients and care providers
- Administer contrast using a power injector as prescribed
- Adhere to radiation safety standards and minimize exposure risks
- Operate imaging and associated equipment proficiently
- Complete pre-, intra-, and post-procedure documentation, including timeouts and informed consent
- Assess patient risk for allergic reactions to contrast media and assist in initial treatment if needed
- Utilize PACS and other hospital systems proficiently
- Educate and monitor students and other healthcare professionals as needed
- Maintain inventory and notify appropriate personnel when supplies are needed
- Demonstrate flexibility and dependability in supporting coverage for open positions and staying beyond scheduled shifts if required
