Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- Active Illinois respiratory therapy license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Strong communication, clinical judgment, patient care, and teamwork skills
Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities
- Provide respiratory care in accordance with physician orders and established clinical standards.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory treatment plans.
- Monitor patient outcomes and recommend adjustments to the plan of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, and responsible caregivers regarding respiratory conditions, procedures, interventions, and discharge instructions.
- Promote patient understanding of respiratory disease processes and prescribed respiratory care.
- Share clinical knowledge with staff and students while serving as a role model for professional respiratory therapy practice.
- Accept reassignment to other hospital units when needed to support patient care operations.
