Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in a hospital setting
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- Active Illinois respiratory care license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, and scheduled call coverage
Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities
- Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust respiratory care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Assess patients and provide respiratory treatments and interventions as ordered by the physician.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of individualized respiratory care.
- Maintain clear communication with medical and nursing staff regarding patient status and respiratory treatment needs.
- Explain respiratory disease processes, procedures, interventions, and discharge instructions to patients and responsible persons.
- Confirm patient and family understanding of respiratory care recommendations and instructions.
- Accept reassignment to other hospital units as department needs require.
- Share clinical knowledge with staff and students while serving as a role model for professional respiratory therapy practice.
