ICU Registered Nurse (RN) – MICU/Stepdown Travel Nursing Job in New Haven, CT

Join a high-acuity critical care team as a Travel ICU Registered Nurse caring for medical intensive care and stepdown patients in New Haven, Connecticut. Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 30, 2026
• End Date: January 29, 2027
• Nursing Shift: Nights, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Shifts per Week: 3
• Shift Duration: 12 hours
• Hours per Week: 36
• Unit: 56-bed Medical ICU and stepdown unit
• Typical Assignment: Stepdown ratio of approximately 1:3, with occasional ICU assignments based on unit needs
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Floating: PCU, other ICUs, and an additional nearby campus as needed
• Call: Not required
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic

ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut; candidates should allow approximately 15–21 business days for license issuance when applicable
• At least 2 years of recent ICU, MICU, or critical care nursing experience
• Previous stepdown or progressive care unit (PCU) experience is strongly preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Demonstrated experience caring for mechanically ventilated patients and managing arterial and central lines
• Competence with continuous IV sedation, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, ABG interpretation, and isolation precautions
• Experience caring for patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
• Willingness to float to designated units and locations based on patient-care needs
• Influenza vaccination required; COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this assignment
• At least one professional reference is required
• Applicants residing within 75 miles of the assignment location are not eligible under the local-candidate policy

Travel ICU RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill and stepdown patients on the night shift
• Monitor and manage patients with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, liver or renal failure, post-cardiac-arrest conditions, and gastrointestinal bleeding
• Care for mechanically ventilated patients and support complex respiratory and hemodynamic needs
• Assess patients, recognize changes in condition, and escalate concerns promptly to the interdisciplinary care team
• Manage arterial lines, central lines, continuous infusions, sedation, and other critical care therapies
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and arterial blood gases to support timely clinical decisions
• Maintain accurate documentation and care coordination using Epic
• Follow infection prevention, isolation, and personal protective equipment standards
• Collaborate with providers, charge nurses, PCAs, and other members of the care team
• Float to PCU, other ICUs, or the designated nearby campus when required to support continuity of patient care
