Travel ICU Registered Nurse Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut before the assignment start date; pending licenses may be considered if active prior to start
• At least 2 years of recent ICU or SICU nursing experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Recent experience with electronic health record documentation; Epic experience required
• Experience in a Level I trauma setting preferred
• Strong critical care assessment, prioritization, and emergency response skills
• Ability to float to step-down/PCU areas within scope of practice
• Flu vaccination required; exemptions are not available
• Local candidates within 75 miles are not eligible for this travel nursing assignment

SICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill adult and geriatric patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit
• Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure, acute and chronic renal failure, CVA/acute stroke, and complex gastrointestinal or surgical conditions
• Perform airway management and care for mechanically ventilated patients, including suctioning and ventilator management
• Titrate vasoactive medications and manage continuous IV sedation, IV insulin protocols, and other critical care infusions
• Monitor and manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, and other invasive devices
• Interpret arterial blood gases, dysrhythmias, and 12-lead EKG/ECG findings to guide timely interventions
• Administer blood products and maintain safe infection prevention, isolation, and PPE practices
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
• Float to the step-down/PCU setting as needed while maintaining safe, patient-centered care
