Travel Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) – 12-Hour Night Shift | Waukesha, WI

Join a collaborative medical-surgical nursing team in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and provide compassionate bedside care to orthopedic and neurological patients in a fast-paced short-term acute care hospital. This 13-week travel nursing contract is ideal for a resilient, adaptable RN who values accurate documentation, clear communication, and high-quality patient care. Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250

  • Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Schedule Requirements: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:6, increasing to 1:7 after 11:00 PM
  • Call: No on-call or callback requirement
  • Orientation: 8 hours

Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

  • Active Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience in a short-term acute care hospital
  • At least 1 completed travel nursing assignment preferred
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • NIHSS certification
  • Recent Epic charting experience within the last 12 months
  • Demonstrated proficiency with indwelling drain removal and PICC line care and dressing changes
  • Ability to float to comparable units or nearby facilities based on census and clinical needs
  • Strong documentation, communication, adaptability, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage change with professionalism

Medical-Surgical Nursing Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to orthopedic and neurological medical-surgical patients during 12-hour night shifts
  • Perform patient assessments, administer medications, monitor patient responses, and communicate changes in condition to the care team
  • Provide care for patients requiring indwelling drain management and PICC line care, including dressing changes
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the Epic electronic health record
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nursing colleagues, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Support safe patient transitions, discharge planning, and patient and family education
  • Float within established clinical competencies when needed to support staffing and patient care needs
  • Participate in weekend and holiday rotations while consistently upholding patient safety and quality standards
