Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Contract – Hilo, Hawaii
Med/Surg Registered Nurse travel nursing contract in Hilo, Hawaii, providing compassionate adult patient care on the Big Island. Join a dynamic medical-surgical nursing team in a fast-paced hospital setting. This on-site travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to work on Hawaii’s Big Island, known for its lush tropical landscapes, scenic waterfalls, coastline, and welcoming island community.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical
- Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
- Location: Hilo, Hawaii
- Contract Dates: December 14, 2026 through March 29, 2027
- Duration: 15 weeks
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,860–$1,960
- Nursing Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts; day or night availability to be determined
- Schedule: Approximately 36 hours per week following the first full week of orientation. Various shift lengths and days may be required; flexibility is essential.
- Medical-Surgical Unit Capacity: Approximately 50 medical beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5
- Clinical Tools: Meditech EMR, Pyxis, wound vacs, and chest tubes
- Orientation: Department-specific training is included during the first week
- Pre-Assignment Requirement: Arrival on the Thursday before the start date is required for an employee health appointment on Friday
- Dress Code: Professional nursing attire with no designated scrub color; closed-toe shoes required
Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in Hawaii by the start of the assignment; candidates without an active Hawaii license should apply upon acceptance of an offer
- At least 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience or experience in a higher level of care
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- Ability to provide safe, organized, and compassionate adult patient care in a rotating-shift environment
- Flexibility to work varying shift lengths and days and to float to surgical pediatric or transitional care units as needed
Travel RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care to adult patients age 18 and older
- Assess patient conditions, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
- Monitor patients using clinical equipment including wound vacs and chest tubes
- Document patient care and clinical findings in the Meditech electronic medical record
- Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary care team to support quality patient outcomes
- Float to surgical pediatric or transitional care units when assigned
- Promote patient safety, education, comfort, and continuity of care throughout the assignment
