Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910 - $2,010
• Location: Newport News, VA 23602 (Hampton Roads region)
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (April 20, 2026 – July 18, 2026)
• Shift: 12-hour nights (every other weekend and holiday)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Unit: 3S – 28-bed Medical-Surgical unit with some remote telemetry patients
• Role Type: Travel Nurse / Travel RN – Medical-Surgical, Telemetry experience preferred

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) experience
• At least 1 year of travel RN experience preferred
• Current RN license in Virginia or compact state
• BLS (American Heart Association) required
• Must pass Dysrhythmia exam at orientation
• Not accepting local candidates: must live more than 50 miles from the facility (travel nurse requirement)

Preferred Certifications

• ACLS and NIH Stroke Certification preferred
• Medical-Surgical or critical care certifications preferred: RN-BC, CCRN, PCCN, CMSRN

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality patient care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Manage medical-surgical patients including TPN, NGT care, surgical drains, and heparin drip management
• Monitor remote telemetry patients with support from monitor tech; identify and escalate dysrhythmias and changes in condition
• Administer medications safely, document care accurately, and follow hospital policies and procedures
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, PT/OT, case management) to plan discharge and ongoing care
• Educate patients and families on individualized plans of care, post-op instructions, and medication management
• Advocate for patient safety, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and support unit goals
• Provide compassionate physical and emotional support to patients and families throughout hospitalization
