Operating Room Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license with eligibility to practice in Massachusetts
- At least 1 year of professional nursing experience, including operating room or perioperative nursing experience
- Strong knowledge of surgical asepsis, sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, and the perioperative team
- Availability to work the required Monday–Friday overnight schedule
- Successful completion of required credentialing, skills verification, background screening, and orientation processes
- Strong communication, organization, and clinical judgment skills
Operating Room Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures
- Prepare operating rooms, surgical equipment, supplies, and patients for scheduled procedures
- Maintain sterile technique and follow established infection prevention standards
- Monitor patient status and promptly recognize and respond to changes in condition
- Collaborate with the surgical team to support efficient, high-quality procedural care
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, medications, and perioperative care
- Complete effective handoffs and communicate relevant clinical information across care teams
- Participate in quality, safety, and process-improvement initiatives within the operating room
