PACU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Contract in Wausau, Wisconsin

PACU Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel nurse contract
  • Start Date: November 2, 2026
  • End Date: January 30, 2027
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,320–$2,440
  • Schedule: Four 10-hour day shifts per week; start times may vary between 7:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m., and 9:00 a.m.
  • Hours: 40 hours per week, with possible low-census adjustments
  • Call Requirements: One night of call per week for four out of six weeks and every fifth weekend; 30-minute response time required. Call shifts begin at 11:00 a.m., and callback has a two-hour minimum.
  • Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every fifth weekend on call and holiday rotation
  • Clinical Setting: 14-bay post-anesthesia care unit with approximately 35 patients per day and a typical 1:2 patient-to-nurse ratio
  • Charting: Previous electronic health record experience required; Epic experience strongly preferred
  • Attire: Scrubs of any color

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • At least 2 years of recent PACU or post-anesthesia care experience
  • Recent hospital nursing experience, including post-cardiac and pediatric patient care
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate required; bachelor's degree preferred
  • Ability to meet scheduled call coverage requirements and respond within 30 minutes

PACU RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, comprehensive post-anesthesia nursing care for patients following surgical procedures.
  • Monitor airway, hemodynamic, neurologic, and pain status throughout the postoperative recovery period.
  • Care for patients recovering from general, spine, neurosurgical, gastrointestinal, ear-nose-throat, cardiac, peripheral vascular, and orthopedic procedures.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions in collaboration with anesthesia, surgical, and critical care teams.
  • Stabilize higher-acuity patients, including ICU-bound patients, before transfer.
  • Administer medications and treatments, manage postoperative symptoms, and document nursing care accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Participate in scheduled call, weekend, holiday, and callback coverage as assigned.
  • Support a positive, efficient, and patient-centered post-anesthesia recovery environment.
