Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) – Weekender Travel Nurse Contract in Lima, Ohio

- Nursing Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts
- Weekender Schedule: Friday–Sunday or Saturday–Monday

PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of Registered Nurse (RN) experience
- At least 6 months of acute-care hospital experience preferred
- Current Registered Nurse license in the practicing state or compact-state eligibility
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Successful completion of a dysrhythmia examination
- Progressive care, stepdown, telemetry, or ICU-level patient-care experience
- Experience caring for patients with ventilators and tracheostomies
- Ability to manage complex patients, including those requiring hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, central lines, and advanced respiratory support
- CCRN or PCCN certification preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Pre- and post-cardiac catheterization or CABG experience preferred
Progressive Care RN Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing nursing assessments of adult and geriatric patients.
- Develop, prioritize, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process.
- Administer medications and manage ordered infusions, including amiodarone, Cardizem, nitroglycerin, heparin, dobutamine, Cardene, diuretics, Narcan, and milrinone.
- Care for patients with complex medical conditions, multisystem illness, trauma, and changing clinical needs.
- Monitor patients receiving telemetry, hemodynamic monitoring, noninvasive ventilation, heated high-flow oxygen, and mechanical ventilation.
- Provide nursing care for patients with tracheostomies, chest tubes, central lines, ports, PICC lines, midlines, feeding tubes, drains, and urinary devices.
- Recognize changes in patient status, respond rapidly to clinical deterioration, and escalate care appropriately.
- Float to ICU or medical-surgical/telemetry areas as needed to support patients within the nurse's competency.
- Coordinate patient care with providers, ancillary departments, patients, families, and caregivers.
- Educate patients and support persons regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and recovery goals.
- Advocate for patient safety, privacy, dignity, and informed choices throughout the care experience.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communicate effectively during handoffs and transitions of care.
