PCU Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardio-Pulmonary Progressive Care in Mechanicsville, VA

Join a 13-week PCU travel nursing assignment in Mechanicsville, Virginia, and provide cardiac and respiratory care to adult and geriatric patients. As a Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse, you will care for patients in a 27-bed cardio-pulmonary progressive care unit with continuous cardiac monitoring and a supportive clinical team. Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020–$2,130
- Location: Mechanicsville, Virginia, near Richmond
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel Registered Nurse assignment
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; three shifts per week
- Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and major holidays as scheduled
- Unit: 27-bed Cardio-Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit
- Typical Patient Ratio: 1:3–4, subject to unit needs
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients requiring progressive cardiac and respiratory care
- Floating: May float within demonstrated competency to the ICU, Med/Surg, or ED for appropriate lower-acuity assignments
- Dress Code: Navy blue, white, or a combination of both
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience, including acute-care hospital experience
- Current Registered Nurse license in Virginia or a valid compact-state license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Ability to successfully complete an EKG examination during orientation
- Proficiency reading and verifying cardiac rhythm strips
- Recent experience managing and titrating cardiac infusions, including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Nitroglycerin, and Amiodarone
- Experience with insulin infusions and BiPAP
- Proficiency with laboratory draws and peripheral IV starts
- Demonstrated ability to manage patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring, and temporary pacing
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, collaboration, and patient advocacy skills
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) credentials are preferred
PCU Nurse Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments of patients' clinical, physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs
- Develop, prioritize, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process
- Administer medications and safely titrate cardiac and insulin infusions according to clinical protocols
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Provide care for patients with heart block, chronic cardiac conditions, rhythm-management needs, chest tubes, and progressive cardiac conditions
- Manage patients receiving BiPAP, hemodynamic monitoring, and temporary or transvenous pacing
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness, revise care plans, and escalate concerns using evidence-based clinical judgment
- Coordinate care with providers, nursing staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Provide patient and family education while supporting informed decisions and continuity of care
- Promote patient safety, infection prevention, privacy, quality improvement, and culturally responsive care
- Remain calm and adaptable during emergencies, changing workloads, and rapidly evolving patient conditions
