Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Active RN license in Virginia or a compact state (required)
- Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience (PCU, telemetry, stepdown, or critical care preferred)
- Proficiency reading and verifying cardiac rhythm strips; must pass EKG exam at orientation
- Experience with lab draws and peripheral IV starts
- Experience managing and titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Nitroglycerin, Amiodarone)
- Experience with BiPAP management and insulin infusions/drips
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- No travel pairs/teams accepted
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring in a PCU/stepdown environment
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments; develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
- Administer medications and manage cardiac drips (excluding vasopressors) safely and accurately
- Perform lab draws and peripheral IV starts; monitor patients on BiPAP and insulin drips
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, case management) to coordinate patient care
- Float within skillset to ICU, Medical/Surgical, and ED for stepdown or lower-acuity holds as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold patient safety, quality, and regulatory standards
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and promote a positive team environment
Preferred Skills (PCU / Cardiac Stepdown)
- Telemetry and advanced cardiac monitoring experience
- Prior stepdown or progressive care nursing experience
- Strong assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills
- Comfortable with a fast-paced, collaborative healthcare setting
