General Surgery Physician Requirements

• MD degree required
• Active, unrestricted medical license eligible for practice in Texas
• ACLS certification required
• At least 1 year of general surgery experience required
• Board certification not required
• Trauma surgery experience strongly preferred
• Comfort working independently in a hospital-based general surgery setting

Responsibilities

• Provide weekend general surgery coverage for hospital-based patient care needs
• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage surgical patients in the inpatient setting
• Perform and assist with a broad range of general surgery procedures
• Manage adult trauma-related surgical cases as needed
• Perform laparoscopic procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernioplasty, and Nissen fundoplication
• Support GI endoscopy services, including upper and lower procedures
• Complete procedures such as chest tube insertion, central line insertion, PA catheter placement, and ventilation management when indicated
• Collaborate with the care team to ensure efficient weekend coverage and high-quality patient care
