Job Requirements – General Surgeon (Locum Tenens)

  • Active Alaska medical license and Alaska DEA (required prior to start) — Alaska licensure for locum tenens required
  • Board Certification in General Surgery
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a practicing general surgeon
  • Current ACLS, ATLS, and BLS certifications
  • Ability to provide 24-hour call coverage for the hospital
  • Proven experience with general surgery and laparoscopic hernioplasty
  • Obstetric & gynecologic surgery experience (e.g., Cesarean section) preferred
  • Must be able to start credentialing immediately (estimated timeframe: 60 days)

Core Responsibilities – Surgical Physician

  • Provide 24-hour general surgery call coverage for the hospital and respond to emergent surgical needs
  • Manage approximately 4–5 patient encounters per shift in a rural community hospital setting
  • Perform general surgical procedures, including laparoscopic hernioplasty, as indicated
  • Respond to emergency surgical consults and perform operative interventions as needed
  • Collaborate closely with hospital staff, emergency department, and ancillary services to ensure high-quality patient care
  • Document all patient interactions, clinical findings, and procedures in accordance with hospital policies and medical record standards
